About the Workshop
The Museum partnered with local artist Killjoy who led the 3rd amArte workshop with the facilitation and assistance of our education associate José Martinez. Held at the Texas Empowerment Academy, students worked with real linoleum blocks and oil-based block printing inks on a real print press to realize their social justice-inspired compositions that would get printed as often as they wished and on quality print paper, t-shirts, tote bags, holographic vinyl sticker sheets, and more. The community sponsor for this workshop was the Links Incorporated Austin (TX) Chapter who donated $500 to ensure each participating student got a set of paint markers and sketchbooks to take home.

About the Artist
Born in the desert of west Texas, Kill Joy’s family is originally from and partly based in the Philippines, partly in Texas. Her work sits at the intersection where jungle meets desert, grounded in honoring the earth and seeking environmental and social justice. Her work is an interpretation of world mythology and a study of ancient symbols. She mixes this research with calls to global, mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual awareness. Her practice, Joyland, includes printmaking, mural making, bookmaking, puppet making in Houston, TX.
