Another Cultural Leader Departs, Contributions Remain.

“My friend Johnny Limon passed away on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2020.  I attended his funeral at the Mission Funeral Home South Side via Facebook. The service was filled with love from all his family and friends, and Mariachis played all the songs he loved.

During Shelter in Place, Mexic-Arte Museum staff and Board continued working on sustaining the organization and producing programs. Our dedicated staff returned on June 1st, anxious, but happy to be back at the Museum. Wearing our masks, we have weekly team-building meetings Monday to Thursday maintaining Social Distancing in the Main Gallery. Exciting things are now happening!

We want to remind everyone to wear their mask while at the Mexic-Arte Museum and to review our Health Protocols before planning your visit. We will continue to provide a place for reflection and inspiration for the community. Art contributes to our well-being.  Take an afternoon off and come by to look at art;  many studies show that viewing and creating art bring us joy and relief in difficult times.

We welcome you back to the Museum starting Saturday, May 30.  You and your family can visit the Museum to view the new exhibition, the Bruno Andrade Retrospective:  A Native of South Texas, shop in the Store and then go outside to see the new mural, Ánimo Austin by Ulysses Cueto  and Mano Suave by Luis Angulo on the MeroMuro 5th St. wall.

This exhibition will mark the first retrospective from the distinguished American artist, Bruno Andrade (b. 1947 in San Antonio, TX – 2013 in Corpus Christi, TX).  His work is inspired by nature, which he painted from what he saw, from his memory, and from his own interior vision.
