About the exhibit and Vicente “Chente” Rodriguez:
Since April 11, 2025 Mexic-Arte Museum has proudly exhibited Beyond the Shape: El Arte de Chente Rodriguez, an exhibition showcasing the bold, dynamic artistry of Vicente “Chente” Rodriguez. Known for his innovative use of shape, texture, and cultural symbolism, Rodriguez’s work redefines traditional forms with a contemporary perspective, showcasing his profound impact on Chicano/a/x art and the Austin community.
Born in Villa Hidalgo, San Luis Potosí, Mexico (1945), Rodriguez immigrated to the U.S. as a child and later became a key figure in the Chicano Movement, creating posters, logos, and album covers for Tejano musicians like Little Joe and Ruben Ramos. For over 30 years, Rodriguez has been a dedicated screen printer, producing designs that have become part of Austin’s cultural fabric.
