For the launch of the 2018 season, Mexic-Arte Museum is featuring six Changarrito residencies during the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. On Sunday, March 18, Harry Chavez will be on hand from 12-3pm. About the Artist:
Harry Chávez, born in Lima, graduated from the Catholic University of Pontificia in Perú. He studied Korean art and culture at Dankook University in South Korea. His work integrates wisdom and iconography of ancient cultures, with particular attention to the Peruvian Andean-Amazonian Cosmovisión, which makes a powerful synthesis of his knowledge utilizing a singular technique and thereby creating a contemporary mythology.
He received first place in the National Painting Competition Ⅲ of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, second place in the Cerro Verde Young Artists Contest, and third place in the passport contest, for an artist of the French Embassy. He also received first place for the Milka Expressions Course and honorable mentions, in both the Metropolitan Contest of Young Artists for the Pancho Fierro Gallery and the National Painting Competition Ⅰ, of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru.
He has had solo exhibitions in Lima, Iquitos, and Cusco and participated in various group exhibitions in Peru, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Spain.
