About the Altar/Ofrenda
Nuestra Comunidad/Our Community – Memory and Remembrance Ofrenda
October 1, 2022 – November 20, 2022
This exhibition marks the 39th Annual Día de los Muertos exhibition and celebration at the Mexic-Arte Museum, since 1984. The exhibition, as always, pays tribute to the tradition that celebrates the return of souls of family and friends on November 1st and November 2nd. Ofrendas, recuerdos, memorias, photos and offerings are assembled and shared in a room by community members to remember loved ones who passed away. Mexic-Arte Museum invites the public to contribute a photo of a loved one or someone you admire who has passed away.
Commemorate Your Passed Loved Ones at the Mexic-Arte Museum this Fall
The Mexic-Arte Museum invites you to participate in the Day of the Dead/ Día de Los Muertos Ofrenda. By contributing a photo of a loved one or someone you admire who has passed away, you will transform the gallery into a communal space where we commemorate the lives of family and friends.
Special Section:
This year, the installation will include a section to honor and memorialize the souls of the children and teachers of Robb Elementary. As a way to pay tribute to the Uvalde students, Mexic-Arte is including a “children section” to commemorate loved ones who have passed. The museum is making a special call to invite schools and classrooms to participate in the ofrenda and submit images of family and friends who they’ve lost.
GUIDELINES:
Each participant will be allotted a 12” x 12” space on our gallery wall. This space will include your framed photo as well as a small plaque/label (provided by the Museum) where you will include your loved one’s name and a personal message. We encourage participants to decorate or personalize their frames but frames should be no larger than 10” x 10” to ensure room for a plaque.
Use only copies of photos (no original) and objects that can be replaced. The museum is not responsible for lost or damaged items due to the nature of the submissions and quantity.
*Please be sure sign up to participate in the community ofrenda/altar. Also, remember to download/fill out the form below and bring a printed copy with you, when you turn in your framed photo. You will need to fill out the plaque/label in person when you drop of your framed photo.
DEADLINE TO DROP OFF: September 25th, 2022, 5 pm.
