Viva la Vida 2023

Viva la Vida Festival takes place on October 28, 2023 from 12 – 6pm in downtown Austin. This year’s event features a grand procession, art activities, food, local artists and retail booths, a low-rider exhibition, and live performances. This event is co-sponsored by the City of Austin.

Changarrito Residency: Toto

Most commonly known by his artist name, Toto, Jorge Flores-Pere was born in Los Angeles, California in 1995, but is now located in Houston, Texas. His first experience as an artist was as a curator in 2016. Jorge Flores-Pere featured their artwork on the Changarrito cart outside the Museum’s entrance on March 18-19 and March 25-26, 2023.

Chicano/a Art, Movimiento y Más Grand Opening

The Chicano/a Art, Movimiento y Más en Austen, Tejas 1960s to 1980s  highlights Chicano and Chicana artists in Austin, Texas during “El Movimiento” (The Chicano Civil Rights Movement). This exhibition serves as a primer on the rich and understudied Chicano art movement in Austin, presenting a variety of mediums, themes, and artists.

Installation for Upcoming Exhibition – Museum Galleries Closed

The Mexic-Arte Museum galleries will be closed from November 23rd – December 18th due to the install of the upcoming exhibition, Mexico, the Border and Beyond: Selections from the Juan Antonio Sandoval Jr. Collection. The Museum Store remains open to the public throughout this time. Please visit our Visit page for Museum Store hours. The upcoming exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, December 19th at 10am and will continue to remain open to the public until Sunday, May 30th.
