SUMMARY:Mix 'n' Mash: Ecos del pasado/ Echoes of the Past
DESCRIPTION:About Mix ‘n’ Mash: Ecos del pasado/ Echoes of the Past\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJanuary 31\, 2025 – March 2\, 2025 \n\n\n\nMix ‘n’ Mash: Ecos del pasado/Echoes of the Past Exhibition and Art Sale will be on view from Friday\, January 31 – March 2\, 2025. This group exhibition displays artworks from over 200 local and regional artists created on quality panels donated by Ampersand Art Supply. The art sale not only increases awareness about the visual arts and art collecting in the community\, but also provides funding for the Museum’s exhibitions\, supports educational programming for children and adults\, and sustains upkeep and care of the permanent collection. Artworks may also be purchased through the museum Online Store. \n\n\n\nEcos del pasado/Echoes of the PastThis year’s Mix ‘n’ Mash theme\, Ecos del pasado/Echoes of the Past\, is inspired by the beauty and intricacies of nostalgia; these pieces should reflect a diverse range of perspectives\, techniques\, and creative expressions. From your favorite childhood show\, a special moment shared with a loved one\, a dish\, a specific smell\, a trip\, a place\, a restaurant that does not exist any more\, or even a natural landscape\, we encourage you to explore and express the unique ways nostalgia manifests in your own life or in the lives of those around you. What memories\, moments\, or feelings does nostalgia evoke for you? \n\n\n\nNostalgia allows us to reconnect with who we once were\, offering both reflection and renewal. In your art\, we hope you will capture the beauty of this emotional tapestry—inviting others to relive the echoes of their own pasts\, even as they look forward to the future. \n\n\n\nNot only does Mix ‘n’ Mash celebrate creativity\, but it also serves a greater purpose. All proceeds from the sale of these remarkable pieces directly support the museum’s exhibition programming for children and adults. \n\n\n\nMix ‘n’ Mash:Mix ‘n’ Mash derived from the terms “mix-and-match” (to combine elements in a harmonious and interesting way) and “mash-up” (a work that blends two or more songs or pieces of art from different genres)\, Mix ‘n’ Mash is an original concept by Mexic-Arte Museum\, which refers not only to the mashing of genres into one work of art\, but also to the mixing of work by various artists to create a unique collector’s set. \n\n\n\nWe are inviting emerging and established artists to create one work of art on a 12” x 12” eco-friendly and archival quality Gessobord generously donated by Ampersand. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you bought a board from the Ecos del pasado/ Echoes of the Past exhibit please read the following: \n\n\n\nThe Mexic-Arte Museum’s galleries will be closed beginning March 3 for the installation of a SXSW rental. If you purchased a Mix’ n’ Mash Board\, please pick it up during Mexic-Arte Museum’s regular business hours from February 21 – March 2! \n\n\n\nPickup Instructions: \n\n\n\n\nPlease make sure to pick up your purchased board from February 21 – March 2. \n\n\n\nThe Museum’s store staff will assist you when you come to pick up your board.\n\n\n\nPlease be advised that we are not able to mail any artwork at this time. \n\n\n\n\nFor Artists: \n\n\n\nIf your board is sold\, the Museum will mail your payment check\, our store associates will reach out to you to confirm your preferred mailing address.  \n\n\n\nSold boards will be deinstalled on February 19th\, in order to allow buyers ample time to pick up their new artwork. \n\n\n\nWe appreciate your participation in this exhibition!  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank You Ampersand! The professional quality acid-free panels used by the artists are Gessobords\, made in Buda\, Texas and generously donated by Ampersand Art Supply. Mexic-Arte Museum would like to recognize and thank all the participating artists for their generous donation and support.

SUMMARY:Totally Cool\, Totally Art!
DESCRIPTION:For over 20 years\, the Mexic-Arte Museum has partnered with Totally Cool Totally Art (TCTA) to curate and host an exhibition to celebrate the artworks created by youth in Austin area rec centers. \n\n\n\n\nAn opening reception is held to bring together students\, families\, instructors\, and coordinators to recognize artists\, artworks\, and institutional support. It’s a chance for students to connect with the community\, receive awards\, and see their artwork displayed in a museum setting. This exhibition is one of Mexic-Arte’s favorite ways to platform the youth and inspire them to pursue the arts. \n\n\n\nTotally Cool Totally Art (TCTA) has been developing teen creativity and confidence since 1996. TCTA is unique in that their classes are completely free to Austin’s teen community. Their mission is to help give teens new experiences\, build respect and trust\, and improve their skills in creative expression\, communication\, teamwork\, and art appreciation. \n\n\n\n\nThis collection showcases work from the first half of the 2024-2025 season\, in which you will find painting\, sculpture\, metalsmithing and culinary art.
