SUMMARY:Mix ‘n’ Mash - On Repeat: The Musicians Who Shaped Us
DESCRIPTION:Hero Image — Bieke Campos\, Vicente Fernandez\, Oil on Ampersand Board\, 2026 \n\n\n\nAbout Mix ‘n’ Mash – On Repeat: The Musicians Who Shaped Us\n\n\n\n\n\nOscar Noe Guerra-Briseño\, Recuerdos II\, 2026Acrylic on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\nJulian Clay\, The Wintons-Amen\, Brothers\, 2026Acrylic on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this year’s Mix ‘n’ Mash\, Mexic-Arte invited artists to honor the musicians and performers who have made a lasting impact. The exhibition features work by more than 200 local and regional artists\, each created on high-quality panels generously donated by Ampersand Art Supply. \n\n\n\nThe artworks celebrate the people behind the sound—legendary figures\, emerging artists\, and local musicians whose voices\, styles\, and stories continue to shape culture. Spanning genres\, traditions\, and generations from around the world\, the exhibition reflects music’s universal influence. \n\n\n\nThrough realism\, abstraction\, symbolism\, and reinterpretation\, artists capture the energy of performance\, the intimacy of creation\, and the qualities that make these musicians unforgettable. Together\, these works highlight the power of music and the individuals who continue to shape how we listen\, feel\, and connect. \n\n\n\n\n\nBrigitte Edery\, Dex\, 2026Oil on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\nLayle E. MurrayMinnie Angel\, 2026Acrylic on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\nMix ‘n’ Mash\n\n\n\nMix’n’Mash is derived from the terms “mix-and-match” (to combine elements harmoniously and interestingly) and “mash-up” (a work that blends two or more songs or pieces of art from different genres); Mix ‘n’ Mash is an original concept by Mexic-Arte Museum\, which refers not only to the mashing of genres into one work of art\, but also to the mixing of work by various artists to create a unique collector’s set.  \n\n\n\nThe art sale increases awareness about the community’s visual arts and art collecting\, provides funding for the museum’s exhibitions\, supports educational programming for children and adults\, and sustains upkeep and care of the permanent collection. Artworks may also be purchased through the museum’s Online Store. \n\n\n\nThank You! \n\n\n\nThe professional quality acid-free panels used by the artists are Gessobords\, made in Austin\, Texas and generously donated by Ampersand Art Supply. Mexic-Arte Museum would like to recognize and thank all the participating artists for their participation and support. \n\n\n\nSponsored By\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurchased boards can be picked up at the end of the exhibition: March 8\, 2026 – if you have any questions about purchasing please reach out to our store at store@mexic-artemuseum.org  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening Reception Video

SUMMARY:Changarrito Residency: Paulina Rosiles
DESCRIPTION:Game Day Shoes\n\n\n\n\n\nEn la Casa de Abuelita Lucy\n\n\n\n\n\n¿Llevas Todo? \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Artist\n\n\n\nPaulina Rosiles (b. 2003) is a painter and multimedia artist from El Paso\, Texas. She graduated with her BA from the University of Notre Dame in May 2025\, double-majoring in Studio Art Honors and Economics\, and minoring in Latino Studies. Her senior studio art thesis\, Let’s Play Dress-Up\, received the Father Anthony J. Lauck\, C.S.C. Thesis Award. \n\n\n\nRosiles has interned at the El Paso Museum of Art\, the National Museum of Mexican Art\, and the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum\, where she explored various avenues of arts administration and the different ways cultural institutions serve their communities. She has exhibited in group exhibitions in South Bend\, El Paso\, and Rome. She debuted her first solo show at Latinx Underground Projects (LÜP)\, an El Paso-based gallery focused on emerging artists in the region\, in August 2025. Most recently\, she serves as the Digital Asset Manager at LÜP\, building digital archives for the gallery\, and continues to exhibit her work throughout the borderland. \n\n\n\nArtist Statement\n\n\n\nMy work focuses on everyday scenarios from the Mexico-U.S. El Paso-Juárez border\, centered on girlhood\, matriarchal lineage\, and familial tradition\, in response to skewed depictions of the region as a crisis zone. The border is both a site of struggle and resistance\, and of nurturing and flourishing\, where mundane\, mostly tranquil lives can thrive. I make sense of my home\, a liminal space that is both the U.S. and Mexico\, yet not fully either\, and emphasize its gentleness. \n\n\n\nMy interdisciplinary practice combines painting\, installation\, craft\, textiles\, print\, and performance. I challenge traditional categorizations\, mirroring how the border resists belonging to any nation. Recently. I’ve increasingly incorporated crochet and sewing into my work\, honoring the media the women in my family practice and the skills I’ve inherited from them. \n\n\n\nI am influenced by domesticana\, a concept coined by Amalia Mesa-Bains\, describing Chicana art practices that elevate the feminine and domestic spheres. I depict elements from my everyday life that are often considered lowbrow—such as my paper dolls\, fangirl crushes on Mexican actors\, and amateur phone-photography portraits of my family—and position them as essential to understanding borderland life. Pink is another recurring motif in my work\, not only because of its traditional association with girlhood\, but its strong presence in my family’s photo archive\, especially in childhood photos of me (you would think my reds got mixed with my whites with how much pink I wore). \n\n\n\nI seek to expand the scope of border narratives through my art\, showing that beyond herridas abiertas\, la frontera is also a place capable of healing and care. \n\n\n\n\nLook at Paulina’s work\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChangarrito Cart – March 21 & 22 and March 28 & 29\n\n\n\nArtists have the opportunity to sell their art on the Changarrito cart in front of the Museum (or an offsite location\, as representative for the Museum during various Austin festivals). Changarreando expands the reach of the artist by presenting their gallery online\, while allowing the option to sell merch over Instagram and receive 100% of the sale. \n\n\n\nPaulina will be at the Mexic-Arte Museum featuring her artwork on the Changarrito cart right outside the Museum’s entrance on March 21 & 22 and in El Paso at the MACC on March 28 & 29 from 12 – 3 PM. \n\n\n\nFollow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates on original work available for purchase and behind the scenes of the artist’s work\, space\, and creative process. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChangarrito Interview

SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Internship Program
DESCRIPTION:Program Description\n\n\n\nThe Spring 2026 internship program at Mexic-Arte Museum comprised dedicated students from The University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University\, each contributing to various museum departments. Their collective efforts enriched the museum’s programming and operations\, particularly through hands-on contributions to exhibits like En lo mas negro del verano and cultural events such as Viva la Vida and Mexic-Arte’s various Hispanic Heritage Month events. From curatorial research and educational content creation to event planning and development support\, the cohort gained valuable professional experience while advancing the museum’s mission to engage the public with Latino/x/e art and culture. Their behind-the-scenes work helped ensure the success of key initiatives and fostered deeper community connections. \n\n\n\n\n\nINTERNS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGinny Montero\n\n\n\nSpecial Events & Marketing Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSophia\n\n\n\nGraphic Design Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJacqueline Nakazono\n\n\n\nDevelopment Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJomary Gonzales\n\n\n\nEducation Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKate Lyon\n\n\n\nEducation Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJacob Cardenas\n\n\n\nCuratorial Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKseniya Portnaya\n\n\n\nCollections Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNicholle Moreno\n\n\n\nCollections Intern\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVanessa Medrano\n\n\n\nDigital Media Intern
