SUMMARY:Mix ‘n’ Mash - On Repeat: The Musicians Who Shaped Us
DESCRIPTION:Hero Image — Bieke Campos\, Vicente Fernandez\, Oil on Ampersand Board\, 2026 \n\n\n\nAbout Mix ‘n’ Mash – On Repeat: The Musicians Who Shaped Us\n\n\n\n\n\nOscar Noe Guerra-Briseño\, Recuerdos II\, 2026Acrylic on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\nJulian Clay\, The Wintons-Amen\, Brothers\, 2026Acrylic on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this year’s Mix ‘n’ Mash\, Mexic-Arte invited artists to honor the musicians and performers who have made a lasting impact. The exhibition features work by more than 200 local and regional artists\, each created on high-quality panels generously donated by Ampersand Art Supply. \n\n\n\nThe artworks celebrate the people behind the sound—legendary figures\, emerging artists\, and local musicians whose voices\, styles\, and stories continue to shape culture. Spanning genres\, traditions\, and generations from around the world\, the exhibition reflects music’s universal influence. \n\n\n\nThrough realism\, abstraction\, symbolism\, and reinterpretation\, artists capture the energy of performance\, the intimacy of creation\, and the qualities that make these musicians unforgettable. Together\, these works highlight the power of music and the individuals who continue to shape how we listen\, feel\, and connect. \n\n\n\n\n\nBrigitte Edery\, Dex\, 2026Oil on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\nLayle E. MurrayMinnie Angel\, 2026Acrylic on Ampersand Gessobord\n\n\n\n\n\nMix ‘n’ Mash\n\n\n\nMix’n’Mash is derived from the terms “mix-and-match” (to combine elements harmoniously and interestingly) and “mash-up” (a work that blends two or more songs or pieces of art from different genres); Mix ‘n’ Mash is an original concept by Mexic-Arte Museum\, which refers not only to the mashing of genres into one work of art\, but also to the mixing of work by various artists to create a unique collector’s set.  \n\n\n\nThe art sale increases awareness about the community’s visual arts and art collecting\, provides funding for the museum’s exhibitions\, supports educational programming for children and adults\, and sustains upkeep and care of the permanent collection. Artworks may also be purchased through the museum’s Online Store. \n\n\n\nThank You! \n\n\n\nThe professional quality acid-free panels used by the artists are Gessobords\, made in Austin\, Texas and generously donated by Ampersand Art Supply. Mexic-Arte Museum would like to recognize and thank all the participating artists for their participation and support. \n\n\n\nSponsored By\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPurchased boards can be picked up at the end of the exhibition: March 8\, 2026 – if you have any questions about purchasing please reach out to our store at store@mexic-artemuseum.org  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOpening Reception Video

SUMMARY:Changarrito Residency: Edward Gia
DESCRIPTION:About the Artist\n\n\n\nEdward Gia is an artist from New York\, NY who is currently based in Austin\, TX. His work maps the emotional terrain shaped by his Ecuadorian-Mexican American identity. Spanning family archives\, self-portraits\, marked texts\, and slow gestures of care his practice stitches together diasporic memory and personal myth that traverses the liminal spaces between fiction and autobiography touching on migration\, inheritance\, and the ache of intergenerational silence. His work anchors themes of longing and resilience within the folds of the everyday through poetic image-making\, installation\, and archival layering forming layered constellations. Their work has been featured at Photoville\, Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio\, The Lucie Foundation\, among others. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in Photography & Video from the School of Visual Arts (2020) and is currently pursuing his Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art at The University of Texas at Austin (anticipated completion in 2026). \n\n\n\nArtist Statement\n\n\n\nMy work blends both photography and installation to stitch together diasporic memory and personal myth. Through self-portraiture\, I explore my longing to reconnect to my roots and my proximity to Mexico\, and by extension\, Ecuador. The camera and the shutter release cord become an extension of my body. It is both a measure of distance and a thread of intimacy that connects me land and the bond that binds me to the matriarchal lineage that I carry. These gestures unfold through poetic-image making and material experimentation\, building visual narratives that give form to everyday life and inherited memory. \n\n\n\n\nLook at Edward’s work\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChangarrito Cart – Feb 7 & 8 and Feb 28 & March 1\n\n\n\nArtists have the opportunity to sell their art on the Changarrito cart in front of the Museum (or an offsite location\, as representative for the Museum during various Austin festivals). Changarreando expands the reach of the artist by presenting their gallery online\, while allowing the option to sell merch over Instagram and receive 100% of the sale. \n\n\n\nEdward will be at the Mexic-Arte Museum featuring her artwork on the Changarrito cart right outside the Museum’s entrance on Feb 7 & 8 and Feb 28 & March 1 from 12 – 3 PM. \n\n\n\nFollow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates on original work available for purchase and behind the scenes of the artist’s work\, space\, and creative process. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChangarrito Interview

SUMMARY:Totally Cool\, Totally Art!
DESCRIPTION:For over 20 years\, the Mexic-Arte Museum has partnered with Totally Cool Totally Art (TCTA) to curate and host an exhibition to celebrate the artworks created by youth in Austin area rec centers. \n\n\n\n\nAn opening reception is held to bring together students\, families\, instructors\, and coordinators to recognize artists\, artworks\, and institutional support. It’s a chance for students to connect with the community\, receive awards\, and see their artwork displayed in a museum setting. This exhibition is one of Mexic-Arte’s favorite ways to platform the youth and inspire them to pursue the arts. \n\n\n\nTotally Cool Totally Art (TCTA) has been developing teen creativity and confidence since 1996. TCTA is unique in that their classes are completely free to Austin’s teen community. Their mission is to help give teens new experiences\, build respect and trust\, and improve their skills in creative expression\, communication\, teamwork\, and art appreciation.
