DESCRIPTION:About \n\n\n\nTotally Cool\, Totally Art (TCTA) is a city program which offers community-based arts education for Austin teens in grades 7 to 12. Mexic-Arte Museum’s ongoing partnership with the City of Austin provides a formal gallery space for the display of artwork created by teens in TCTA after-school workshops. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition runs until March 1\, 2020. Please note that this is not an opening reception\, but it is the day when the exhibition opens to the public.

DESCRIPTION:Cover image: (Closeup)  Agent of Change: Adela Sloss-Vento\, Mexican American Civil Rights Activist and Texas Feminist.  \n\n\n\nJoin us for Dr. Cynthia Orozco’s Book Signing and Author Talk this Friday from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Dr. Cynthia Orozco is a History & Humanities Professor at Eastern New Mexico University in Ruidoso\, New Mexico. She will be presenting her newest book\, Agent of Change: Adela Sloss-Vento\, Mexican American Civil Rights Activist and Texas Feminist. The first comprehensive biography of a formidable civil rights activist and feminist whose grassroots organizing in Texas made her an influential voice in the fight for equal rights for Mexican Americans. \n\n\n\nDr. Cynthia E. Orozco of Cuero\, Texas is Professor of History and Humanities at Eastern New Mexico University\, Ruidoso and the daughter of Mexican immigrants. She graduated from UT Austin and UCLA. She is the author of Agent of Change: Adela Sloss Vento\, Mexican American Civil Rights Activist and Texas Feminist; No Mexicans\, Women or Dogs Allowed: The Rise of the Mexican American Civil Rights Movement; co-editor of Mexican Americans in Texas History; and Pioneer of Mexican American Civil Rights: Alonso S. Perales (Arte Publico Press\, forthcoming\, 2020). She has written over 100 encyclopedia articles including for the Handbook of Texas and over 100 articles and letters appearing in newspapers. She has also appeared on CSpan-Book TV. \n\n\n\nOrozco is a founder of the Chicana Caucus of the National Association for Chicano Studies. She served as campaign manager of the Leo Martinez Congressional race in the early 2000s. Governor Bill Richardson appointed her to the New Mexico Humanities Council. She is currently a national board member of Unladylike 2020\, a multi-media project celebrating women of the Progressive era in commemoration of the 100 th anniversary of women’s suffrage appearing on PBS in March.
